How to move a network version of IRIS from one server to another

Introduction

This topic provides an outline of the process and links to how to guides and video walkthroughs for all the main processes involved in moving a network version of IRIS from one server to another.

Upgrades can be performed by competent IT users, however we do not recommend that you perform new installs or server moves of your IRIS software without a qualified IT professional. IRIS can provide an experienced technician to complete the changes for you.

Below is an outline of the process.

Share the IRIS folder

For network use the IRIS folder must be shared on the network.

  1. Please ensure that you have the group of users who require access to IRIS added to the share which has read/write permissions on both the Sharing and Security tabs:

  2. Open My Computer.

  3. Go to the IRIS folder.

  4. Right-click on the IRIS folder and select Properties.

  5. Select the Sharing tab.

  6. Click Advanced Sharing.

  7. Select the Share this folder option.

  8. Click Permissions.

  9. Ensure that the group has Read/write permissions.

  10. Click OK.

  11. Click OK.

  12. Go to the Security tab.

  13. Click Edit.

  14. Again ensure that the group has Read/write permissions.

Edit the System paths

For network use the internal IRIS paths must point to a network location of the relevant folders (DATA and FORMAT).

These can be set as follows:

  1. Open My Computer and go to the IRIS folder.

  2. Double-click on makettl.exe

  3. In the New Paths section enter the network location for the folders. These can be either a mapped drive (eg: Z:\DATA\, Z:\DATA\ and Z:\FORMAT\) or a UNC path (eg: \\SERVER\IRIS\DATA\, \\SERVER\IRIS\DATA\ and \\SERVER\IRIS\FORMAT\)

Reconfigure the workstations

Following a server move, the workstations must be reconfigured to point to the new server.

To do this:

  1. On the workstations click Start.

  2. For Windows 7 and Vista machines, type in the Search box.

  3. For XP machines, click Run.

  4. In the Search box, or Run command type in \\SERVER\IRIS\setup.exe and press Enter (assuming your server name is "Server").

  5. The workstation setup should begin.

  6. You may be prompted to remove any existing workstation components. If so, complete the setup and then re-run setup.exe as above.
