Two-factor authentication

What is two-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a security method that requires the user to complete two levels of authentication to log in. This provides an extra layer of security and better protection for your data.

Although 2FA is not yet mandatory, we would recommend that you take advantage of this feature.

Once two-factor authentication has been enabled, it will replace multi-step authentication, which requires a memorable word to log in.

There are several types of 2FA, including email and SMS verification. However, after research and testing we have concluded that authenticator apps are the most simple, convenient, and secure option for IRIS Cascade.

Authenticator apps

Authenticator apps work by using time-based one-time passwords (TOTP). Once set up, when users log into IRIS Cascade, their chosen authenticator app will generate a time limited code. They can then enter this code into IRIS Cascade and log in.

Recommended apps

We have tested, and would recommend, one of the following apps:

  • Google Authenticator

  • Microsoft Authenticator

  • Authy

Users will choose which app they want to use when they are prompted to set up 2FA .

Users can choose to use an authenticator app that isn't on this list, but we are only able to provide support on the apps listed.

Availability

Two-factor authentication is available to users who currently use a local user name and password to log into IRIS Cascade.

Two-factor authentication is not available for ADSSO users. If you use an external provider, such as Azure, to log into IRIS Cascade, two-factor authentication must be configured directly with the provider.
