Exporting or printing Organisation Chart Data

An organisation chart visually shows the hierarchy status of employees relationships relative to other employees within a company. For example, an assistant director invariably falls directly below a director on the chart, indicating that the former works for the latter.

IRIS Cascade has two organisation charts that can be found in the following places:

Location Detail
HR > Reports and Analysis > Organisation Chart This chart displays data in a horizontal format which makes it difficult to print. It has been superseded by the one available in MyCascade.
MyCascade> Directory > Org Chart This chart displays data in a vertical format which makes it easier for printing. Printing is only available in the latest modern browsers that support the technology used such as Chrome and Edge. It is also built to be responsive so it works on any device type / size. See more here.

The IRIS Cascade and MyCascade org charts both work using the Works For field on the employees current active Job & Salary record.

Exporting data

Data can be exported by creating a query in query builder. This can then be used to import into other software such as Microsoft Visio.

Query Builder allows you to get the exact data you need. The example below shows the very basic info you'll need.

Any standard or custom fields can be added to this query to allow data to be grouped. Fields such as HierarchyLevel2 etc found on the Job and Salary screen.

Field Detail
Employee Name (ID) This is a hidden fx field that concatenates the employees Known As, Surname and Employee ID into one field.
Works For Name This is a hidden fx field that concatenates the works for Known As, Surname and Employee ID into one field.

If these two fields are not visible in the query builder list for the MAIN screen they'll need to be added using Configure this Screen. The two fields are called:

  • Employee Name (employee.employeedesc)

  • Works For Name (main_manager.employeedesc)

Exporting or printing to PDF

You can export the org chart data, in both versions, to PDF using the Print option.

When selecting Print, you'll see your normal printer(s) but in that list is also an option to Microsoft Print to PDF.

This may be called something different depending on your system. If it is not visible, contact your IT team to add it.
