Copying a Live to a Test Database
It is possible to make a copy of your Live database to enable it to be used for training or testing purposes, without impacting live data. You could for example, import a budget into the Test database, or make amendments to user security and check that the changes are working as expected.
There are limitations in the Test database. Because automated processes contain links to the Live database, these will not work in the Test database. These processes include purchasing authorisation, rules (such as depreciation), copying from a master location to multiple locations (such as creating nominals), etc. The Reporting Suite is also not available.
Each time the Live database is copied, it will overwrite the previous details held in the Test database.
Data can be copied from the Live to Test database, but for obvious reasons, cannot be copied from Test to Live.

Log in to IRIS Financials ensuring your live database is selected, e.g. PSFLIVE.

Select Masters > Ledgers from the menu bar.

The Ledger Maintenance dialog is displayed. Select the ACADEMY ledger then click the Accounts button.

In the Account Maintenance dialog, select the COMPANY account then select the User Fields tab.
- Click the CopyLiveToTest field and select Yes from the drop-down list.

Tab or click onto any other field then click the Apply The data will then be copied from the Live to the Test database. Once copied, the CopyLiveToTest user field will update to show the date/time of the last copy.
The process of copying the Live to Test database can take up to 15 minutes, depending on the size of the database.

You will then need to log out and log back in again, this time selecting the Test database.
Remember to switch back to the Live database when you have finished in Test.
