User restrictions and restricting access to clients

These features are only available for multi-user accounts.

Restricting access to clients

Users with Edit client access rights and who have access to a client, can assign or remove access rights via the Access tab on the client screen.

The default is that all users have access to all clients. If you wish to restrict access, this can be done as follows:

  1. Select the client you wish to restrict.

  2. Select the Access tab. This will load a list of all users on the system.

  3. Select the users that require access to this client.

  4. Save the changes.

Administrators can see all clients and cannot be restricted.

A non-administrator who has ‘Edit client access‘ permissions MUST include themselves as a user with access. That is, they cannot remove themselves from the client.

It is not necessary to set up access on all clients. It is only required for those clients where you wish to limit access.

User restrictions

Some functions within Taxfiler by IRIS can be restricted from a user.

  1. From the Settings icon select Users and then select the user you wish to edit.

  2. Select the Restrictions tab.

You will be presented with several functions which can be selected or removed via a tick box.

For example, should you not want a user to be able to delete a client, tax return or accounts then you would remove the ticks as seen below:

A wizard can be used to assist with a generalised selection, that is, a junior staff member is restricted from many functional areas.

The attached file shows the areas in the system where there are no restrictions, and where restrictions are available which profiles will have these selected by default. Selections made via the wizard can be edited if required.

An administrator has no restrictions and cannot remove their administrator status themselves.
