How to deal with Authentication failed response when sending Self Assessment Tax Return Online

Introduction

There are three reasons why an Authentication Failure Error No. 1046 - Type: fatal Authentication Failure. The supplied user credentials failed validation for the requested service message can occur.



Checking the user ID and Password

  1. Log on to PTP Tax Platform.

  2. Click the Spanner icon located on the tool bar to access the Tax Offices and Firm Details screen.

  3. Select the FBI tab on this screen.

  4. Check that the User ID and Password boxes have been completed correctly.


It is possible to highlight and copy this information from PTP and paste into the relevant login boxes on the Government Gateway website  http://www.gateway.gov.uk and click the Enter Gateway option This is a good way to ensure the details have been entered correctly.

 


 

Checking the clients UTR number

  1. Log on to PTP Tax Platform.

  2. Click on the Client then select the Client Main details tab.

  3. Ensure that the correct UTR number has been entered.

 


 

Checking the service has been activated

To check this log onto the Government Gateway website using your User ID and Password and check for any options to activate the service.
