How to create a SQL server connection using TCP/IP with CLICONFG

Introduction

An alias is an alternate name that can be used to make a connection. By default, SQL Server connects to a local instance of SQL Server using the Shared Memory protocol, and to an instance of SQL Server on another computer using either TCP/IP or Named Pipes.

  1. Click Start or Start Run (XP) and type CLICONFG

 

  1. Select the Alias tab and click Add.

 

  1. Make the following entries:

 

  1. Click OK to close and test.
