How to access the Response.XML file

Introduction

When a Tax Return is submitted online a copy of the response message sent by the HMRC Gateway system is saved within the IRIS internet directory. This response.xml file will confirm that the Tax Return has been accepted and can be accessed as follows.

 

Locating the Response. XML file

  1. Log on to IRIS Personal Tax and select the client.

  2. From the Reports menu select Transmit Internet Return.

  3. Right-click on the clients name then select Properties, the following screen displays:


  4. The pathway shown to the left of the File option then click Close.

  1. Minimise IRIS Personal Tax then double-click on My Computer.

  2. Follow the path noted at step 3, in this example begin with double-clicking on the Local Disk (C:) drive then 10sql then Data then Internet then PTAX2012_002A.

  3. The PTAX2012_002A folder contains the following files:


    This is a copy of the acceptance/rejection notice.


    This is a copy of the information which was transmitted to HMRC.


    This is a security protocol file sent by HMRC.
    Double-click the response,XML file to open the file.
