How to change the Date format in an AutoMail letter

Introduction

After generating an Automail letter you may realise that you would like the date format to be in words rather then figures. For example, displayed date would be 01/01/08 and the date that you would like to see on a Client letter would be 1 January 2008.

To change the format of the date

  1. From the IRIS Main Menu, click IRIS AutoMail.

  2. The letter request Browser displays. Click Templates.

  3. The AutoMail - Letter Template Maintenance screen displays. Highlight the template that you would like to change and click Edit.

  4. Place your cursor on the date that would like to change.

  5. To check for versions of Word, Click on Help | About when in the Word Document.

For MS Word 2007 & 2010

  1. Toggle Field codes on to view Field Format. Press ALT + F9 on the keyboard, or click the Office button | Word Options |Advanced | under "Show Document Content" heading. Select "Show Field Codes instead of their values" | click OK.

  2. On the template, place the cursor on a blank line.

  3. Click the Insert tab. In the 'Text' section click Quick Parts. From the drop-down list select 'Field'.

  4. In the 'Categories' field select 'Date and Time' from the drop-down list.

  5. In the 'Field Names' field, click 'SaveDate'.

  6. Under Field Properties (Date Formats), select the Date format that you would like. For example, select 1 January 2008.

  7. In the Date Format Field, dd MMMM YYYY will be displayed, suggesting that, that is the format the dates will be displayed in. Click OK.

  1. Click OK to confirm your selection.

The Date on your Word document will be displayed in the following format:

{SAVEDATE \@ "dd MMMM yyyy" \* MERGEFORMAT}

  1. Minimize Word and click Save in the Tag Selection screen.
